AI is changing the way we live off the land in a number of ways. The most obvious is its ability to automate farming processes, but there are other ways that AI will have an impact on homesteading and self-sufficiency.
AI-assisted decision making:
A machine learning algorithm can be trained to make decisions based on historical data, allowing it to predict outcomes with greater accuracy than human intuition alone. For example, if you want your crops watered at exactly 6:00 AM every morning and 4:00 PM every evening so they're ready for harvest at 9:00 AM on Monday morning (and don't forget about watering them again before sunset), then this task would normally fall upon someone else--a hired hand or family member--who knows how much water each plant needs based on its size and type (not all tomatoes require the same amount). But what if there was no one available? You could always use an automatic sprinkler system instead…but who wants their garden watered by an indiscriminate machine?
